Not For The Light Hearted

So, it all started on a dark and dreary night.  Did that get your attention?  Probably not, but I will be proceeding with my story of two of the busiest weeks in my recent memory.  We are in the midst of putting up a website that has various multi-page forms to gather information from the customers.  In goes without saying that the customer needs an opportunity to review and edit the information in the case they were overcome by a case of "fat fingers" during the data entry process.  Seems like a straight forward requirement, and one that should not require the remaining lifespan of a given programmer to provide.  Well; those of you web developers reading this will understand when I mention that the response to that belief is a resounding - NOT!!!

Keep It Simple Stupid

A very wise man once said, "Keep it simple stupid!"  Or if you prefer the same four letter acronym, KISS can be said to stand for "Keep it simple sweetheart."  Which ever definition of the phrase sits best with you, it doesn't really matter.  My basic point here is when designing web interfaces and how they flow to accomplish a given task, you have to keep your primary end user in mind.  When I was a twenty-something software engineer fresh out of college and ready to take on the world, this fact was brought to my attention in a VERY clear and unforgettable way.  Here's how the story goes as I remember it.

C2C-Logo-Web-150x138First came Joomla 1.0, then came Joomla 1.5.  Now there is Joomla 1.6, and there is an early BETA version of Joomla v1.7 available as we speak.  That said, the big question on everyone's mind is:

1. When do I upgrade?

2. Do I upgrade?

3. When does the madness stop?

Man From Queen Creek

Shadow DancerFrank Kelly, a fresh, new author from Queen Creek, Arizona just released his latest book, Shadow Dancer.  Be sure to pick up your signed copy today at www.manfromqueencreek.com.

"Nathan Prentiss has spent most of his life in Hollywood where he has had a prominent career in television.  In his most successful series, Shadow Dancer, Nathan played the half Apache sheriff of Cochise County hunting down modern-day criminals in southern Arizona.

When Nathan's only child, Cassandra, dies from a drug overdose, Nathan finds himself caring for his six-year-old grandson, Natty.  Nathan is  adamant that the boy will not be raised in the limelight of southern California and returns to the small village of Addison, New York where he himself was raised and purchases his boyhood home.  Close friend and bodyguard, Doug Ratske, accompanies Nathan and Natty.

The novel covers the first year following the move and the occurring events.  Nathan deals with his notoriety and reunites with an old love while Doug seems to find trouble around every corner.  While it is an eventful year, it is not necessarily a happy one."
